Spotlight : Savannah Jerk
Who is in the mood for some delicious mouth watering brown stew chicken served with a side of rice and peas and green banana? Better yet, how about some oxtail seasoned just right with some boiled yams and dumplings? If the sound of any of these dishes tickle you taste buds then follow us to the Savannah Jerk. The Savannah Jerk, which used to be known as Mr. Jerk, was established three years ago. The quaint Caribbean restaurant is located on a perfect corner of Wardour Street in London.
Ishmael Brimah, who is currently the restaurant’s owner, enjoys Caribbean food and loves the restaurant business. Ishmael, who is from Ghana, said that although he has no Caribbean roots he grew up with Caribbean people and he embraces the culture as well as the food. He obviously enjoys the sounds of the Caribbean as the dining area is always alive with the melodic voices of reggae artists. The atmosphere is just right for some spicy jerk wings, curry chicken, or a traditional Trinidadian roti. My personal favorite was the mutton with a side of rice and peas, delicious!
The Savannah Jerk is perfectly located in the center of the city, which is perfect for walk-ins as well as regulars. The restaurant is located in the popular Soho District; perhaps that is why at anytime you may run into a number of celebrities. Ishmael ran down a list of popular diners including Jay Z and his wife Beyonce.
Due to the popularity of the restaurant Ishmael is setting his sights on expansion and wants to continue spreading the taste of the islands. He told us that he is in the process of opening a restaurant in America and he is thinks the perfect local is Elizabeth City, New Jersey. So, whether you dine in the trendy London location or the newly constructed New Jersey location make sure you are savoring a flavorful caribbean meal at Savannah Jerk.
